  • What is Chips@Home?
    Chips@Home is a distributed compute network that lets you earn money by sharing your computer’s GPU when you're not using it. We route AI workloads to your machine securely, and you earn for the time and power you provide.

    How do I join?
    Apply, and if selected, you’ll receive a custom installer for the Chips@Home Worker App. Just run it, and it will automatically configure your system — including secure network access and the right AI models based on your hardware. No technical setup required.

    What kind of computer do I need?
    You’ll need a GPU with at least 6GB of VRAM — ideally an NVIDIA graphics card. Most mid-range gaming PCs qualify. Low-end laptops and integrated graphics are not supported.

    Can I still use my PC while it’s working?
    Yes! Most tasks run in the background or during idle time. You’ll still be able to browse, stream, and even game — but more demanding jobs may pause or scale back if your system is active.

    Does it cost me anything?
    Nope. The software is free, and you don’t need to buy anything. You only earn.

  • How much can I earn?
    It depends on your GPU tier, how many hours you’re online, and what jobs are available. Higher-tier GPUs earn more and get more frequent jobs.

    When do I get paid?
    Earnings are tracked daily, and you become eligible for payout after your first full week of activity. Once unlocked, you can cash out anytime via USDC (crypto), PayPal, or other supported methods based on your location.

    Is there a minimum payout?
    Yes — we currently require a $5 minimum to withdraw, but that can be reached quickly with consistent uptime.

    How is payment calculated?
    You’re paid for every minute your GPU is online and eligible. The system tracks your usage, job completions, and tier level to calculate your share fairly.

    Can I earn more by referring people?
    Yes! Invite friends and earn bonuses when they start contributing. Referrals also help boost your payout multiplier.

  • Is this safe for my computer?
    Yes. Our system runs on trusted open-source frameworks and only uses spare GPU cycles. We monitor temperatures and can pause work automatically if needed.

    Do I need to be technical to run this?
    Not at all. The setup is beginner-friendly, and everything runs in the background. You won’t need to touch code or command lines.

    What happens if I go offline?
    No worries — you simply stop earning while offline. Come back online anytime and the system picks up where it left off.

    Will it slow down my computer?
    Most users don’t notice a difference. If you’re gaming or editing video, the app will detect that and pause to give you full performance.

    Does it use my CPU too?
    Mostly GPU, but lightweight background tasks may touch your CPU. Nothing that interferes with normal usage.

    How private is this?
    Your data is safe. All jobs run in isolated containers, and we never access your personal files. VPN and telemetry traffic is encrypted.

  • What kind of jobs run on my system?
    AI inference jobs — mostly language (like chatbots), audio (like voice transcription), and image generation. You won’t run mining or sketchy tasks.

    Can I choose which jobs to run?
    Not directly. Jobs are automatically assigned based on your GPU's capabilities. This keeps things seamless and maximizes your earning.

    What if I upgrade my GPU?
    Awesome! The next time you run the app, it’ll detect your new tier and start assigning higher-paying jobs automatically.

    Can I run this on multiple machines?
    Yes. You can run as many as you want — each earns independently. Just make sure each device has a unique install.

    What are “cold starts” and why do they matter?
    Cold starts happen when a model isn’t preloaded and takes time to boot. Higher-tier GPUs preload key models to avoid delays and earn bonus rewards for keeping jobs hot and ready.

    Will this hurt my hardware long-term?
    Not if your system is healthy. We only run within safe thermal limits. GPUs are designed for workloads — we just use the cycles you're not using.

    Is this crypto mining?
    No. Chips@Home does not mine cryptocurrency. It runs real, useful AI workloads for real clients.
